COVID NUMBERS DECLINED THIS WEEK

Victorian data taken from Department of Health Weekly Report 08 December 2023.

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 declined this week with a daily average of 274, down from 326 last week. The current average remains high compared to recent months but remains below the most recent peak in May/June.

The 7-day average of ICU patients also declined this week (15 to 11).

Deaths in the most recent 28-day period (25/10/2023 – 21/11/2023) have continued to increase, compared to the prior 28-day period (27/09/2023 – 24/10/2023), with a current 28-day total of 166.

Increases and decreases in the reporting of deaths attributable to COVID-19 tend to lag waves of infections and hospitalisations by several weeks. (Note that reporting periods for deaths are lagged by 2 weeks to allow for delays in data collection)

Australia: As of 11 December, there have been 11,715,625 cases and       23,671 COVID deaths.

World: As of 11 December, there had been 699,237,741 worldwide infections with COVID-related deaths numbering 6,954,115.
