WORKSAFE GENDERED VIOLENCE RESOURCES

Gendered violence shows itself in many different ways and impacts many different groups of people. WorkSafe’s gendered violence campaign ‘It comes in many forms’ aims to increase the understanding of work-related gendered violence and raise awareness that it is an OHS issue. Part of WorkSafe’s campaign to educate about gendered violence includes a suite of resources aimed at providing guidance on the identification, assessment, control and review of this pervasive hazard.

Gendered violence is any behaviour, directed at, or affecting a person because of their sex, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity, or because they do not adhere to socially prescribed gender roles.

The resources to address this hazard are aimed at both employers and employees, and address such questions as:

  • What does gendered violence look and sound like?
  • Who is most at risk of gendered violence?
  • How does work-related gendered violence affect people?
  • How do I report gendered violence?
  • What if I witness gendered violence?
  • How do I prevent gendered violence?
  • What are my legal duties?

WorkSafe’s gendered violence resources include factsheets for employers and employees, guides for employers on how to manage the risks of gendered violence, and videos explaining what gendered violence is in multiple languages.

Alongside the gendered violence campaign, WorkSafe is working with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission on a Parallel Enforcement Strategy to regulate work-related sexual harassment. You can find out more about this joint strategy to better prevent and respond to sexual harassment in the workplace, here.
