Industrial Manslaughter

Some bosses are getting away with manslaughter. When a worker dies due to negligence on behalf of a company and its directors, they are currently receiving a fine and no jailtime. We need to fix this so that employers take OHS seriously.

Unions have been campaigning for the introduction of Industrial Manslaughter legislation for decades, but over the last few years there has been a strong and sustained push. Here in Victoria workers campaigned hard for these laws, and the result has been that the Andrews Labor government has committed to their introduction by the end of the year.

But the work isn't done yet! As with any new law, it must be passed by both houses of the Victorian Parliament. The crossbench in the Upper House will be the next hurdle.

Stay tuned to this page for upcoming campaign actions and ways that you can get involved in the final push!
