REDESIGNING WORK REDUCES PSYCHOSOCIAL RISKS IN AGED CARE

The Centre for Transformative Work Design at Curtin University, a recipient of a research grant from Safe Work Australia, has completed its research to explore interventions to manage psychosocial risks in the aged care sector.

The two year research project was conducted across four residential care facilities of a large Australian not-for-profit aged care provider. The project aimed to eliminate or minimise psychosocial risks associated with increased job demands in the aged care sector. The research report concluded that a work redesign process can identify effective and cost-efficient ways an organisation may reduce job demands. The researchers said the key was to tailor a work redesign to the specific needs of the organisation and its employees.
