HAY AND GRAIN LOGISTICS COMPANY CHARGED FOR IMPALEMENT FATALITY

Boyd Industries, a hay and grain logistics company, has been charged with three counts under s.23(1) of the OHS Act for failing to ensure that people other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.

In December 2022 a 55-year-old boilermaker died when the fork attachment of a telehandler impaled him during the construction of a metal framed roller door.

It is also alleged that the company Boyd Industries breached s.327(1) of the OHS Regulations when they failed to prepare and implement a Safe Work Method Statement for the high-risk construction work.

The matter is due to be heard at the Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court this month.
