HUGE WIN FOR WELDERS: NEW STANDARD EQUALS WORLD'S BEST

AMWU announced last Wednesday that SafeWork Australia had just voted to immediately lower the limit for welding fumes in workplaces.

Readers of SafetyNet will recall the previous limit of 5mg/m3 hadn't been updated since it was set in 1991, but the new limit of 1mg/m3 is in line with the lowest in the world.

The AMWU has congratulated all who emailed SafeWork, signed the petition, shared their posts or talked with workmates about the campaign.

‘That includes those who don't work around welding but know that every worker has the right to do their job as safely as possible.

And while there is always more to do to make sure our workplaces are following safety regulations, let's enjoy this win today. It's one to be proud of.’
