ZOOM FATIGUE: CAUSES AND IMPACTS, PATICULARLY FOR WOMEN

A Stanford study has examined the causes of Zoom fatigue, a feeling of exhaustion experienced by individuals during video-conferencing.

Using a sample of 9787 participants, the researchers found Zoom fatigue is influenced by the frequency, duration, and breaks taken during video-conferencing sessions.

Additionally, factors such as mirror anxiety, hyper-gaze, feeling physically trapped, and the effort involved in producing and monitoring nonverbal cues contribute to the phenomenon.

Women tend to experience these nonverbal mechanisms to a greater extent than men, leading to higher levels of fatigue.

The study highlights the importance of understanding the impact of video-conferencing on individuals' psychological well-being and suggests practical strategies to combat the issue.
