NEW GUIDELINE: RACE DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE

The Victorian Equal Opportunity Commission last week issued a new and very detailed guideline: Race discrimination in the Workplace. The guideline provides information on rights and responsibilities regarding race discrimination in the workplace under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.  

The guideline introduces workplace racism in Victoria and the VEOHRC says it is an essential tool for all employers to tackle racism at work. It sets five minimum standards that employers must meet to comply with their positive duty to prevent race discrimination under the law. The minimum standards provide employers with clear steps and guidance to make their organisation anti-racist and comply with the positive duty. 

The guideline is available in English and in twelve other languages. Also available are a number of related resources, including fact sheets for both employers and workers.
