US: FLORIDA LEGISLATES AWAY CLIMATE CHANGE

Florida has passed a law that removes any mention of ‘climate change’ from state laws and policies.

On May 15, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the legislation, ignoring scientific evidence and the impacts of climate change. On the same day, Key West recorded a record heat index of 114.4°F (45.8c), highlighting the state's vulnerability.

Florida faces severe climate issues like rising temperatures, hurricanes, and sea-level rise, leading to significant economic damage, yet the new law bans the construction of certain wind energy facilities, repeals energy conservation grants, and allows the use of natural gas over cleaner alternatives.

Another law bans local governments from implementing heat safety standards for outdoor workers, putting them at risk.

These actions as dangerous and shortsighted, with negative consequences for workers and residents. Let’s hope Floridians use their common sense and voting power to address this policy lunacy, but don’t hold your breath.
