EUROPE: CALLS FOR PSYCH RISKS LEGISLATION

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is urging binding legislation to prevent psychosocial risks at work. Over the past 20 years, European workers have seen a rise in workplace risks, with 44.6% exposed to such factors.

The 'End Stress' campaign, supported by Eurocadres and the European Trade Union Confederation since 2019, seeks legislative measures to address the 'stress epidemic' in Europe. In 2022, two European Parliament reports explicitly called on the European Commission to propose a directive on preventing psychosocial risks.

The European Trade Union Institute (etui) states that information and communication technologies have had a negative impact on workers' mental health, leading to increased cases of heart disease, stroke, and work-related mental disorders. Recent estimates suggest that work contributes to 17-35% of depressions.
