Many types of machinery, equipment and power-driven tools generate intense vibration.
This vibration can then be transmitted to the workers who operate them. There are two types of vibration: whole body vibration and hand-arm vibration - both can cause ill health.
Victoria does not have regulation which specifically addresses vibration however it is covered generally under OHS Act as well as under the Hazardous Manual Handling and Plant regulations. VTHC also has its own approved safety standard to ensure that employers are fulfilling their health and safety obligations to reduce workers exposure to unsafe vibration levels.
