VWA Safety Soapbox

The August edition of WorkSafe’s Construction division e-newsletter Safety Soapbox went out last week. During July, 192 incidents were reported to WorkSafe, and 395 workers’ compensation claims were made.

Other news in this edition is that WorkSafe will be running a free tradie breakfast in Echuca on Friday 30 August. As well as WorkSafe representatives, attendees will hear from the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) about construction related hazards impacting the building industry in and around Echuca. There is also an item on a new alternative high-risk work licence for non-slewing telehandlers with a rated capacity of more than 3 tonnes (TV). The licence has been introduced for those who spend most of their working life operating non-slewing telehandlers and not traditional non-slewing mobile cranes – such as those used in the agriculture industry.

Of interest too is a list of construction-related prosecutions, with some brief information on each one, as well as a number of news items from interstate.
