RETIRED AKZ PROSECUTION VWA NEWS RELEASE

In last week’s edition of SafetyNet we reported on the prosecution of Retired AKZ Pty Ltd after multiple safety failures. WorkSafe has now issued a News Release.  The company was fined a total of $92,000 – but this was after four of its workers had been injured in multiple incidents (the first one in an incident prior to those the company was prosecuted for).

WorkSafe Executive Director of Health and Safety Sam Jenkin said the company's careless approach to safety had resulted in three workers suffering serious injuries in as many years.

"The dangers associated with operating machinery that uses brute force to shape steel are obvious and employers undertaking this kind of work must ensure they are taking the safety of their workers seriously and doing all they can to reduce the risks," Mr Jenkin said.

"Workers are entitled to expect the machines they operate are safe and well-maintained, for safe systems of work to be in place and to have the supervision they need to do their jobs safely."  Read more: WorkSafe News
