COMCARE CHARGES DEPARTMENT OVER INJURIES TO CHILD

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources has been charged with breaching work health and safety laws after a child suffered serious injuries at Canberra's Questacon centre in 2022.

A Comcare investigation found that a nine-year-old child suffered burns to their hands and wrists as a result of a spark from a plasma globe igniting the alcohol-based hand sanitiser used by the child and supplied by Questacon. The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions has filed a single charge under the federal Work Health and Safety Act Comcare’s investigation.
