ITALY: PUBLIC TRANSPORT STRIKE

On Monday this week the five major Italian labor confederations Cgil, Cisl, Uil, Ugl, and Faisa Cisal called for a national 8-hour transport strike. The issues that concern Italian workers are not very different from our own concerns!

The strikes, which began on 7 September, affected airports, train travel, and local bus, subway, and tram services in many of Italy’s main cities. The reasons the unions have given for the action include salary increases, greater worker protections, enhanced training, combating assaults on staff, and strengthening contractual welfare. In action earlier this year, unionized workers demanded increased wages and denounced public health and tax reforms
