HEALTH PROVIDER CHARGED AFTER PATIENT DEATH

WorkSafe has charged a health care provider following the death of a patient at Mitcham Private Hospital.

Ramsay Health Care Australia Pty Ltd is facing two charges under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, that persons other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.

The patient took their own life while undergoing treatment in the hospital’s perinatal mental health unit in November 2023.

At the beginning of this year SafetyNet wrote about multiple hospitals facing charges in similar circumstances – unfortunately, we have been unable yet to find the results in those cases.
