ANNEX FOODS ENTERS ENFORCEABLE UNDERTAKING FOR SEVERED FINGER

A food manufacturing company, Annex Foods Pty Ltd, in Clayton South has entered into an Enforceable Undertaking (EU) with an estimated value of $130,000 following the partial severing of an employee’s finger.

In 2023 a labour hire employee was cleaning a food processing machine known as a dosing hopper. During the cleaning process the employees middle and index finger came into contact with a butterfly valve that appears to have been actuated by another worker at the control desk while initiating a cleaning step.

The employee’s middle finger was partially severed, and the tip of their index finger was lacerated. The middle finger was able to be re-attached in surgery.

The EU involves four undertakings to be completed within 18 months, and include a donation to the Institute for Safety, Compensation and Recovery Research Industry Program, and hosting and funding two workshops for front line leaders across the manufacturing industry in Victoria.
