AMWU WEBINAR: DIESEL EXHAUST AND THE NEW WORKPLACE EXPOSURE LIMITS

Diesel exhaust is a serious workplace health risk. With new workplace exposure limits coming into effect around Australia*, HSRs need to understand what they mean and what they can do to protect workers.

The AMWU’s National (Rank & File) WHS Committee invites all union HSRs to join Associate Professor Kate Cole OAM, Certified Occupational Hygienist, Churchill Fellow and one of Australia's foremost experts on silica dust and occupational lung disease prevention, for an essential session covering the new WEL for diesel exhaust, what it means for your workplace, and what HSRs need to know.

Professor Cole will provide an overview of the new WEL, explain how workers, delegates and HSRs can interpret occupational hygiene reports, and outline what workers should look for when assessing whether their employer is complying with the new standard.

Following Professor Cole’s presentation there will be time for questions and discussion.

The aim of this webinar is to equip attendees with the knowledge and confidence to engage with their employer about diesel fume exposure and seek evidence that exposures are being adequately controlled.

*  In Victoria our Government elected to delay implementation for the lower WELK for three more years. This notwithstanding the primary duty of the employer under s.21 requires employers to reduce risks to health so far as is reasonably practicable. This webinar covers information of benefit to all workers who want to learn more about diesel fumes.

WHEN: Tuesday 20 October 2026 – 7:30pm to 8:30 pm

WHERE: Online – link to webinar will be sent following registration

This webinar is presented by the AMWU's National (Rank & File) WHS Committee as part of Safe Work Month

All relevant HSRs are encouraged to attend
