16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Ending Gender-Based Violence is Union Business - As unionists we know that gender-based violence is a safety issue, and when we organise and fight together, we can win changes to end gendered violence at work and in the community. 16 Days of Activism is an important time for workers to come together, understand our rights, and fight for safer, more respectful workplaces free from gender-based violence and sexual harassment.

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to call for an end to gender-based violence against women, gender diverse people and girls. The 16 Days starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, International Human Rights Day.

How to be a Workplace Activist

This 16 Days of Activism we encourage you to step up to be a workplace activist!

Whether you’re a delegate, HSR, a union member or thinking about joining your union, empowering yourself, your co-workers and family and friends with knowledge is one of the first steps to creating safer workplaces.

Know your rights, get active and start a conversation in your workplace using our workplace activist checklists. Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook for our Know Your Rights explainer videos that will be coming out over the 16 Days.

Feminism at the Hall – Fundraiser Screening of The Janes

On December 2, we are hosting a screening of The Janes, in solidarity with women and people who can get pregnant and our right to bodily autonomy and choices regarding our reproductive health. This 2022 HBO documentary focuses on the United States prior to the 1973 Roe v Wade decision that protected the right to abortion across the United States. Every dollar raised will be donated to Children by Choice, a not-for-profit organisation based in Queensland who provide support for all pregnancy options.

Come down from 5pm, and grab a drink with like-minded sisters and comrades to end the year - at 6pm we'll watch this shocking yet inspiring documentary about an amazing group of feminist activists. Make your entry contribution here and confirm your spot.

We hope you can join us! Let's get active to end violence this 16 Days of Activism.
