WORKSAFE CHARGES MAD DIESEL REPAIRS AFTER TRUCK DRIVER CRUSHED BY GARBAGE TRUCK IN 2023

Following a WorkSafe investigation into the death of a 26-year-old truck driver in Melbourne’s CBD, charges have been laid against Mad Diesel Repairs Pty Ltd (MDR) for contravening s.23 of the OHS Act – failure to ensure that people other than employees are not exposed to health and safety risks arising from the conduct of their undertaking.

It is understood that the driver got out of the truck on Hosier Lane before 7 am on 26 June 2023 before the truck rolled forward and pinned him against a post and a building wall.

WorkSafe alleges that when MDR completed repairs on the truck just a few weeks prior to the incident, they failed to correctly adjust the truck’s brakes.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 12 May 2025.
