ASK RENATA

I completed the 5-day course but it was very simple and didn't explain, in detail, the rights and powers of a HSR. What would be the best method to gain more info on these rights and powers?

Please see our webpage OHS reps – Your Rights for a summary of the above, including two downloadable posters -  the first on your rights, the second, your powers.

Please also see our Training webpage, which provides the following important advice:

Make sure you attend training provided either by your union or the VTHC. HSRs are elected by their fellow workers to represent them. We understand what HSRs need and have been training effective HSRs for many years. Remember that under Section 67 of the OHS Act, both HSRs and deputies have the right to attend the training course of their choice (in consultation with their employer).

We’re concerned the course you attended ‘didn't explain in detail the rights and powers of a HSR’. To be a WorkSafe-approved training provider, course content, structure and delivery must meet strict criteria.

Check your training provider is WorkSafe-approved, here.
