I agree with everything in the union submission. I would like to see OHS Harmonisation to include Compensation schemes through Comcare that removes common law remedies to injured workers exposed for additional detriment they cause to injured workers. Many injured workers, after being psychologically injured on top of initial injuries are bullied and harassed to accept permanent impairment which forces them to retire and live on their own superannuation. Many of these concerns were tabled in the Feb 08 Review of Comcare. OHS Consultation needs to include the insurance arrangements your employer has agreed to without workers being consulted. HSR need to be elected by workers not employer, no transparency in Gov if kept internalised and appointed by employer. Also strengthen employer awareness of Public Interest Disclosure Act 1994 and protections afforded to workers who disclose Public interest matters including breaches of OHS duties. Perhaps we need to utilise other legislation besides OHS given the politicisation of the Public Service. Disclosers must state this is a public interest matter or else they will be treated as an ohs matter alone and end up like other injured workers, re-injured on top of initial injuries by the employer and their insurer.
