Vale Fred Gibbs, the face of the James Hardie campaign
The Victorian Trades Hall Council regretfully announces that Fred Gibbs, the asbestos sufferer who was the face of the national and international James Hardie campaign died on Monday January 17 in Moe, Victoria.

Fred was 78 years old when he died. He contracted asbestosis whilst working at the State Electricity Commission (SEC) power station in the La Trobe Valley.
VTHC Secretary, Leigh Hubbard, said today: 'Fred was very proud to be able to do something for all asbestos sufferers. It gave him a great sense of satisfaction to be a part of this campaign and we are very grateful for his efforts'.
'His image made it clear that asbestos destroys the lives of ordinary Australians of all ages. We offer our deepest sympathies to his family and vow to remember his role in this historic campaign,' he concluded.
Fred is survived by wife Thelma, two sons and a daughter. His funeral will be held in Moe on Friday.
