Getting it Right - Take Action

01 July 2004

To all Subscribers of SafetyNet:

You should all now be aware that the VTHC has launched a new OHS campaign, "Getting it Right" . We are urging all subscribers to participate and take action. The campaign aims to ensure that the current review of the OHS Act will give Victoria the best occupational health and safety legislation in Australia - an promise made by the Victorian government.

The VTHC supports the review, and supports many of the recommendations made as a result of that review. However, we believe that in order to "Get it Right" the amendments to the Act must provide:

  • Stronger support for Representation
  • Strengthened training provisions
  • Consultation on Return to Work
  • Unrestricted union right of entry
  • Union right to prosecute
  • A specialist tribunal

We also believe the government must introduce Industrial Manslaughter law.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

  • Send an email to government - it's easy! Go to our Campaign website.
  • Ask your friends and family to send an email too
  • Visit or phone your local ALP member (support available from VTHC)
  • Send letters to your local papers and ring up radio talkback
  • Discuss the issue in your workplaces and urge your work mates to take action
