This 28 February marks the 10th anniversary of International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day. The event falls on the last day of February each year. It focuses on the work related causes of sprains and strains injuries.
Sprains and strains are the most common cause of injury and the most common reason for a WorkCover compensation claim. Most injuries can be prevented.
Unions this year are focusing on the Review into Model OHS laws, which released its final report just a few weeks ago.
“We are concerned that the Report’s recommendations, if implemented, would give rise to many more strain injuries,” said Brian Boyd, Secretary of the Victorian Trades Hall Council. The Report recommends significant changes to the powers of OHS Representatives.
“We know that OHS Reps are one of the single biggest factors affecting improvements in a workplace’s OHS performance. They do a good job raising OHS issues. A Model OHS law shouldn’t reduce any powers of OHS Reps.”
