Behaviour Based Safety

What is 'Behaviour Based Safety'?

Behavioural Based Safety is an approach to safety that focuses on workers' behaviour as the cause of most work-related injuries and illnesses.   This is dangerous, as it shifts the focus from identifying the hazards  in workplaces and then eliminating or reducing the risks associated with them - which is what employers have the legal duty to do.  These programs are being introduced in Australian workplaces. The union movement has produced a kit for health and safety representatives and delegates - go to the Toolbox section to check it out and download it.
