Centre for Corporate Accountability

The Centre for Corporate Accountability is a British not-for-profit organisation funded by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. It was set up in 1999 to promote worker and public safety by providing advice, and undertaking research and advocacy, on matters relating to law enforcement and corporate criminal accountability. The Centre is managed by a Board with wide experience of working on safety and accountability issues. It also has an Advisory Council composed of lawyers, academics and hazard campaigners. The CCA aims to increase worker and public safety through promoting law enforcement and corporate criminal accountability. Among the features of the site is an index of all web articles on corporate crime, safety and accountability.

European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions

The Foundation is a tripartite European Union body that was set up in 1975 to contribute to the planning and establishment of better living and working conditions.

International Labour Organisation sites:

The International Labour Organization is the UN specialized agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights. It was founded in 1919. The ILO formulates international labour standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations setting minimum standards of basic labour rights: freedom of association, the right to organize, collective bargaining, abolition of forced labour, equality of opportunity and treatment, and other standards regulating conditions across the entire spectrum of work related issues.

  • SafeWork
    This sub-site of the ILO is dedicated to occupational health and safety. The ILO has revised its online health and safety resources to make them easier to access. The SafeWork Bookshelf is a collection of key occupational health and safety documents. It was compiled by CIS, the information arm of the SafeWork Programme, and includes the Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety, International Chemical Safety Cards, ILO Conventions and Recommendations on occupational health and safety and ILO Codes of Practice.Also available free is the International Occupational Safety and Health Information Centre (CIS) database. Users just enter a query and then up come the results.
  • ILO's Socio-Economic Security Programme
    The InFocus Programme on Socio-Economic Security is ILO's response to the growing sense of social and economic insecurity. This affects people in both developing and industrialized countries, and is linked to globalisation, more flexible labour markets, informalisation, technological changes and social policy reforms. Downloadable from this page is "Barefoot Research - A Worker's Manual for Organising on Work Security".

Global Labour Inspection Network

The Global Labour Inspection Network (GLIN), created by award-winning Brazilian labour inspector Fernanda Giannasi and Danish labour inspector John Graversgaard, has the stated aim of defending the role of health and safety enforcement agencies and workplace inspections. The GLIN website includes regular news updates and extensive links.

MEDLINE Plus

A service of the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, this site has broad health based information including a medical encyclopaedia and dictionary.

NOAH - Access to Health

A US (New York) website which provides access to high quality full-text consumer health information in English and Spanish that is accurate, timely, relevant and unbiased.

OSHWEB

OSHWEB is an index of occupational safety and health resources on the Internet. This site provides a good starting point for locating occupational safety and health information from the Net.

World Health Organisation (WHO) - Occupational health website

The WHO has a new occupational health website, and an online newsletter, Global Occupational Health Network (GOHNET) which can be downloaded at the site. The site has information on health issues, and more.
