  • From UnionsNSW: a very short survey, mainly to ascertain the extent of bullying in workplaces

  • The UK's peak union council, the TUC has produced guidance for safety representatives on dealing with Bullying at Work. It includes a sample survey form. Bullying at Work - Guidance for Safety Representatives

  • From WorkSafe Victoria - the Bullying and Occupational Violence topic pages:

    • Guide: Preventing and responding to bullying at work and related information
    • An information sheet (May 2011) Occupational Violence which provides advice for organisations where jobs that require face-to-face contact place workers at risk of exposure to occupational violence.
    • In November 2010, WorkSafe published a number of guides on the prevention of workplace bullying, as part of its 'Respect at Work' campaign. The resources include  Questions to ask when engaging an external trainer, mediator or investigator, sample policies, case studies and a powerpoint presentation:  Preventing bullying at work - are you doing enough?. 
    • Bullying risk indicator - this tool can be used to identify and address any underlying work environment risk factors. Also a Checklist for Employers (these can be downloaded from the top right hand side of this page)
    • What to do if bullying happens to you - a tool setting out actions someone can take if they experience bullying
    • Cash in Transit - a 32 page publication outlining practical guidance for Cash In Transit (CIT) employers, and duties of designers, managers, contractors and employees. The publication covers risk management, safety and security risk assessment, vehicles and robbery. Another, related publication is Armed hold-ups and cash handling - Transferring cash - providing a solution for small businesses being targeted for robberies when transferring cash to the bank.
    • Preventing occupational violence against health workers
    • Prevention and management of aggression in health services - A handbook for workplaces This handbook provides a framework to identify, prevent and manage aggression and violence in health industry workplaces.

  • Information for women, including information on violence, from the Victorian Government. From earlier government work:  A Right to Safety and Justice - Strategic Framework to Guide Continuing Family Violence Reform in Victoria 2010 - 2020  From this page the Right to Safety and Justice report and summary report can be downloaded

  • The Victorian State Services Authority investigated bullying in the public sector and released its report: Trends in Bullying in the Victorian Public Sector: People Matter Survey, 2004 - 2010. It then developed a Tackling Bullying guide which draws on the research and gives advice on how to respond to bullying when it first occurs and the follow up action to prevent it from happening in the future. It contains a number of resources that can be adapted by an organisation.

  • From the ACT, a webpage on Bullying and Harassment. The page has a range of resources including a checklist for employers, how to develop a complaints resolution procedure, and posters.

  • From WorkSafe in Western Australia:
    • an information page on bullying and violence with articles covering a large number of industries.
    • A Guidance Note: Dealing with bullying in the workplace: a guide for workers [pdf]. This publication is also available in other languages.
    • Code of practice: Violence, aggression and bullying at work (2010) [pdf]. The code has practical advice for employers on what to do and includes worked examples, checklists and more.

  • From South Australia:
    • Stop Bullying in South Australia - A Collaborative Effort of the Interagency Roundtable on Workplace Bullying. This site has information for employees and employers as well as resources, links and much more.
    • SA WorkCover has a webpage on bullying, and another page with more documents providing advice to workers and employers. There is also a page on Violence, with useful documents.
    • A guide for employers and employees Preventing and Dealing with Workplace Bullying
    • A very comprehensive guide from the South Australian Working Womens' Centre and SA WorkCover, Workplace Bullying - Making a difference [ pdf]. This guide includes a 'Workplace Climate Survey' that reps can amend to suit them.

  • From Queensland: Advice on workplace harassment, including the Prevention of Workplace Harassment Code of Practice, 2004 [pdf] 
  • From WorkCover Tasmania:
    • Bullying: A guide for employers and workers  [pdf] - Covers the effects of bullying on OHS and suggests practical ways to manage and reduce this.
  • From Comcare:
    • Comcare has released a suite of guidance materials  for employers and employees on preventing and managing workplace bullying. The guidance includes policy and risk factor checklists, and a risk management tool. 
    • Applying best practice principles to the prevention and management of customer aggression - a risk management guide for customer service providers updated in July 2009  
    • A recent literature (February 2009) review Managing Customer Aggression This literature review defines customer aggression and identifies measures that can be taken to prevent and manage the risks associated with this occupational hazard. It includes strategies on developing policies and procedures to prevent and respond to occupational violence.
    • Visitor Aggression - a risk management tool in the form of a simple table with advice from the Virtual Office section of the site
  • Bully Blocking - An Australian website that looks at bullying at work and at school.

  • The International Labour Oganization website has many sector specific resources on violence and stress - for example on Violence at work in hotels, catering and tourism and Violence and Stress in education workplaces.
  • The UK union UNISON has produced very useful guidelines for union delegates and OHS reps: Bullying at Work [ pdf] The guidelines give advice on the sorts of things that can be done to combat bullying in the workplace. The guidelines contain a draft policy and also workplace survey. 
  • From the UK's HSE:  
    • Managing violence in retail and licensed premises toolkit a free web-based kit is designed to help employers in retail and licensed premises tackle the problem of work-related violence. While primarily aimed at large employers in the sector, an accompanying summary leaflet is be available for smaller organisations. The toolkit incorporates a wide number of examples of good practice and control measures used to reduce the risk of violence in the retail and licensed sectors. (available after October 1, 2008) 
    • Bullying at work: a review of the literature [PDF 311kb] A report that reviews the literature on workplace bullying, discussing definitions, methods of investigating, behaviours constituting bullying and the literature on effective interventions.
  • Europe's unions and employer organisations in 2007 signed a framework agreement to fight against harassment and violence at work. Negotiated over ten months, the text committed the signatories to combat by April 2010 all unacceptable behaviour that can lead to harassment and violence at the workplace.
