Asbestos Disease Support Groups

There are a number of groups which provide information and support to people with asbestos-related conditions and their families. Contact them for more information.

ASBESTOS WISE

This is a new organisation which is an amalgamation of ADSVIC and AISS. The website is not up yet, but keep an eye open. (January 2012)

Asbestos Diseases Society of Victoria (ADSVIC)
ADSVIC is a volunteer run, registered not for profit organisation, dedicated to supporting people affected by asbestos related diseases (ARD) by offering peer based support and working to eliminate asbestos exposure through advocacy and increasing community awareness. ADSVIC is overseen by an elected Committee of Management consisting of seven volunteer members who manage the affairs of the organisation.

Asbestos Information and Support Service (AISS)
This is an organisation run by volunteers, was founded as 'a place to be, an opportunity and a focal point in Melbourne for positive community action on asbestos.'

Gippsland Asbestos Related Diseases Support Group (GARDS)
GARDS is located in Gippsland and is a non profit, charitable organisation run by volunteers, who lobby for better asbestos disease support services for sufferers and their families. GARDS holds a support group meeting monthly and distributes a quarterly newsletter.

Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia
The foundation was founded to represent the needs and interests of asbestos disease victims, through information exchange, support networks, referral to medical and legal help and lobby efforts. The organisation is based in Sydney, but can provide information, etc to anyone seeking it.

An informational resource on mesothelioma and the different methods of treatment, including traditional and alternative forms of treatment. The organisation is based in the United States, but has information that may be of interest to Australians.
